Relapse in a borderline-tuberculoid case of leprosy 5 years after the release from rifampicin monotherapy.

چکیده
Paucibacillary cases of leprosy are now routinely being treated with two drugs, namely rifampicin (RFP) and diarnino diphenyl sulphone (DDS) . We report here a paucibacillary case of borderline-tuberculoid (BT) leprosy, who had taken a one-year course of daily RFP monotherapy, and relapsed as BT five years after the release from treatment. Mycobacterium Zeprae derived from this case was sensitive to both 0·0 1 g% DDS and 0·03 g% RFP.

متن کاملNeuritic leprosy: epidemiology and therapeutic responsiveness.
We studied epidemiology, progression and therapeutic responsiveness in 62 cases of neuritic leprosy. Numbness was the main presenting symptom. Mononeuritis involving the ulnar nerve, followed by the common peroneal nerve was the commonest presentation. The lepromin test was positive in 34 cases while a slit-skin smear was negative in all cases. We treated 20 of these cases with dapsone monother...
متن کاملRelapse with multibacillary leprosy caused by rifampicin sensitive organisms following paucibacillary multidrug therapy.
Many leprosy patients treated with multidrug therapy (MDT) had previously received dapsone (DDS) monotherapy for many years. We report here 2 such patients treated with modified paucibacillary MDT composed of rifampicin and DDS who subsequently relapsed with multibacillary leprosy 5 and 6 years after release from treatment. Isolates of Mycobacterium leprae from both patients were resistant to D...
